The dawn of this day will mark your arrival in Rome.

You will commence a half day tour of Rome.

First, you will be taken to visit the Sistine Chapel. This humbling edifice is located in the Vatican City, which has become one of the most famous art galleries in the Western world. Michelangelo’s famous Sistine Chapel ceiling depicts scenes of the “Creation” from Genesis, and on the walls below are his scenes of the “Last Judgment”.

That experience will be followed up by a tour of the eternal city of Rome.

First up is the Basilica of St. John the Lateran. It is the oldest and ranks first among the four Papal Basilicas or major basilicas of Rome (possessing the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome). It claims the title of ecumenical mother church among Roman Catholics.

Then you will visit the Holy Steps, The Scala Sancta. According to the Christian tradition, these are the steps that led up to the praetorian of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem, which Jesus Christ stood on during his Passion on his way to trial. The stairs were reputedly brought to Rome by St. Helena in the 4th Century.

For centuries, the Scala Santa has attracted Christian pilgrims who wished to honor the Passion of Jesus.

You will then proceed to the Basilica of the “Santa Croce” Holy Cross in Jerusalem.

According to tradition, the basilica was consecrated to house the Passion Relics brought to Rome from the Holy Land by St. Helena of Constantinople, mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine.

The day’s tour will terminate in a transfer to a hotel in Rome for dinner and overnight stay.

It is the symbolic “Mother Church” of the Holy Catholic Church and is regarded as one of the holiest Christian sites. It can only be described as “the greatest of all churches of Christendom”, and is the burial site of Saint Peter, who was the first Holy See and the first in the line of the papal succession.

The name of St. Anthony became celebrated throughout the world, and with it the name of Padua.

The inhabitants of this city erected to his memory a magnificent church; whither his precious relics were transferred. When the vault in which for thirty years his sacred body had reposed was opened, the flesh was found reduced to dust but the tongue uninjured, fresh and of a lively red color.  St. Bonaventure, beholding this wonder and miracle, took the tongue in his hands and kissed it, exclaiming “O Blessed Tongue that always praised the Lord, and made others bless Him, now it is evident what great merit thou hast before God”.

The fame of St Anthony’s miracles has never diminished, and even in the present day he is acknowledged as the greatest thaumaturgist or miracle worker of all time.

That experience will be proceeded by a visit to the shrine of Rosa Mystica.

ROSA MYSTICA – The beginning of the Apparitions at Montichiari in 1947.

The records say that Mary appeared here as the “Rosa Mystica”.

Montichiari with its suburban Fontanelle is a small town in Northern Italy, twenty kilometers from Brescia, the bishop’s town.  It is situated in front of the Italian Alps in the fertile plain of the river Po.  The name means in English, “Bright Mountains”.  On a hill lies the old castle of St. Mary and the venerable Church of San Pancrazio.

The Story of “Rosa Mystica” began in 1947 where our dear Mother of Christ appeared to PierinaGilli, a nurse by profession, in a room of the hospital she worked in. Our Lady, dressed in a beautiful violet dress and a white veil around her head was very sad, her eyes were filled with tears and her breast was pierced by three big swords.  During her Apparition, the words “Prayer-Penitence-Expiation” were uttered by Our Lady. It is said that our Lady had made 7 similar Apparitions which were followed with many Miraculous healings.

The story of Lourdes.

Lourdes is one of the important shrines in Europe.

Why do they come? They come because Lourdes is a different place.

  • A place where Christians can freely express their faith.
  • A place where the sick and people of disability have priority.
  • A place of prayer, of service and fraternity between people
  • A place that children and young people say is “Super”
  • A place where a person can be open to God.

This is why it is a place that people keep returning to.

The story of Lourdes began in 1858 when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Salubrious. Since then, the number of pilgrims has increased each year. It is a place of spirituality that helps people to live in our world today.

The story of Lourdes is written each day by the pilgrims who come here, it is a living, breathing, growing story. 150 years later, people still come to give their thanks.

This year we will give thanks for graces received and we will discern God’s will as we embark into the third millennium.

First, you’ll visit St. Gillard’s Convent where the uncorrupted body of St. Bernadette lies.

Time to learn about the life of St. Bernadette. When the Mother Superior of the St. Gillard’s Convent announced to her novices that Bernadette would soon be entering the Convent of St. Gildard, she did not hide her joy at seeing “the eyes which had perceived Our Lady.” We taste some of this delight when we see Bernadette in her shrine. Her eyes are closed but she is there! Intact, that face upon which was reflected the marvelous light of the virginal mystery, the Immaculate Conception. Intact, those lips which conversed with the Virgin Mary. Intact, those hands which guided by the hands of Aquero, painfully scratched the soil of Massabielle and opened for us the miraculous spring of Penance. Intact and present, this heart so tender and so strong which beats for the love of Jesus and his Mother and their account for all sinners in the world. Intact, as if she had just gone to sleep, and awaits only the angel’s call to rise to her feet.

God did not want her to escape totally from our human wretchedness, nor leave her brothers and sisters for whom she gave her life.  She is still among us – A. Ravier S.J.

After beholding the wonder of St. Bernadette, you will transfer to a hotel in Paris (250 KM) for dinner and overnight stay.

The Apparition of Fatima – On 13 May 1917, three children were pasturing their little flock in the Cova da Iria, Parish of Fatima, town of Vila Nova de Ourem, today the diocese of Leira-Fatima. They were, Lucia de Jesus aged 10, and her cousins Francisco and Jactigana Marto aged 9 and 7. About midday, after praying the Rosary, as was their custom, they were amusing themselves building a little house out of stones scattered around the place where the Basilica now stands. Suddenly they saw brilliant light and thinking it to be lightning, they decided to go home. But as they went down the slope, another flash lit up the place and they saw on the top of a holmoak (where Chapel of Apparitions now stands), a “Lady more brilliant than the sun”, from whose hands hung a white rosary.

The Lady told the three little shepherds that it was necessary to pray much, and she invited them to return to the Cova da Iria during five consecutive months on the 13th day of June, July, September and October, the Lady appeared to them again and spoke to them in Cova da Iria. On the 19 August the apparition took place at Valinhosabout 500 meters from Aljustrel, because on the 13th the children had been carried off by the local administrator to Vila Nova de Ourem.

At the last apparition, on the 13 October with about 70,000, people present, the Lady said to them that she was the “Lady of the Rosary” and that a chapel was to be built there in her honour.

After the apparition all present witnessed the miracle promised to the three children in July and September; the sun, resembling a silver disc, could be gazed at without difficulty and whirling on itself like a wheel of fire, it seemed about to fall upon the earth. Afterwards when Lucia was a religious sister of St Dorthy, Our Lady appeared to her again in Spain (10 December 1925, 15 February 1926, in the convent of Pontevedral, and on the night of 13/14 June 1929, in the convent of Tuy), requesting the devotion of the five first Saturday (to pray the rosary, meditate on the mysteries of the rosary, confess and receive Holy Communion, in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and consecration of Russia to the same Immaculate Heart. This request had been announced by the apparition on 13 July 1917, in what is called “the secret of Fatima”.
